What’s it like to own a filming location?

Using your home as a location for filming can be a great way to generate extra income, especially as filming rates are usually a lot higher than those for stills photoshoots.

Film shoots can often be quite disruptive though, due to need for more equipment and greater crew numbers, so if you’re considering offering your property as a filming location it’s important to consider how this may impact on your daily routine while the shoot is in progress.

Most filming crews are extremely respectful and considerate of your property, occasionally though things may get broken. The company producing the shoot will always be insured against damage and if it occurs this will be put right following the shoot but if your home has a lot of fragile or sentimental items, then you should think carefully before deciding to offer it as a filming location.

Owning a filming location also comes with some responsibilities. Filming often requires privacy where high-profile actors or celebrities are involved or a quiet environment when sound is being recorded, so you may at times be asked to vacate your property while shooting is in progress. You should also consider any potential impact on your neighbours as there can be a lot of equipment and vehicles involved in the production.

If after considering these factors you still think that owning a filming location might be for you then please visit our listing your property page at the top of the site.

Filming location FAQ’s

  • Costs for filming at a location?

The cost of filming at one of our locations depends on your requirements. If you are looking to film ‘behind the scenes’ on top of a stills shoot, then this starts from as little as £300. A full-on film production will naturally be a lot more expensive but we will try to work with your budget and get you the best deal. The type of film location you‘re looking for is always a cost factor. Some owners will accept smaller budgets while others may be less inclined. Feel free to call us to discuss your needs further. We’ll be happy to help!

  • How long is a shoot day?

When booking any of our filming locations, we require our clients to sign a standard booking form. This clearly sets out the agreement between the client, the property owner and our responsibilities as the agent acting on behalf of both parties. In some cases, it is necessary to do a ‘Schedule of Conditions’ before the shoot starts, which we are happy to help with. Please feel free to get in contact with us to find out more.

  • Can I set-build at the property?

Most owners will allow alterations to their property as long as it is put back to its original state and the owner is satisfied following the film shoot. Each client will sign a booking form accepting responsibility for any damage that might be caused during filming; agreeing to leave the property in the condition it was in before the shoot. It is the responsibility of the client to ensure that the property owner is happy when the film shoot is over.

  • Any filming Locations outside London?

We have a large selection of locations suitable for filming outside of the M25 and also spread across the UK. These locations include beach houses, country manors and farms.
