A former derelict Gin Distillery quietly being lost in the East End of London is where you will now find this magnificent Location house, The Distillery.

This Architect designed property, by Rupert Scott, has been transformed from an empty space into a sanctuary of light space and calm that defies its geographical constraints. The challenge was to incorporate light and views into the property without creating issues of overlooking, and that is exactly what they have done.

Externally The Distillery retains all of its previous discretion, however upon entering the hidden courtyard a vast wooden door eludes to a different world within.

The choice of materials is consistent throughout and focuses on simplicity and durability. Downstairs, the interiors boast exposed steelwork with timber and polished concrete flooring and surfaces as well as large crittal windows that are in keeping with the original rhythm of the property. Through these crittal windows and carefully placed skylights, light seeps in keeping this tucked away space very lit up. The kitchen and adjoining living space are open plan boasting gorgeous wooden beams and a wood burning wooden stove to match.

In keeping with the rest of the property there is a black steel staircase that leads upstairs to a sun filled landing off which there are two modern cabin style bedrooms. A master and a children’s bedroom featuring a long platform bed.

There is one bathrooms available for shoots with a free standing roll top bath and a Scandinavian redwood ceiling.

Moving on there is an enclosed terrace on the upper floor full of tranquillity. A new anthracite zinc roof sits within the walls and protrudes upwards to offer additional height. The front yard and side passage also serve as secluded spaces that cushion the home from its urban surroundings.
